On Tuesday, May 2, Physical Therapists, Physical Therapy Assistants, and PT/PTA students gathered in Sacramento for CPTA's Annual Legislative Day. Members of the community spend the day learning about PT advocacy and important bills and legislative issues. CSULB faculty, 2nd and 3rd year students, and alumni reunited with the goal of educating our legislators about important issues that could impact our patients and our profession.
Devan Stiles, a 2nd year student who was sponsored by the Long Beach South Bay District thought the event was a great learning experience and was amazed that "advocating can be as easy as having a 10 minute conversation."
Maddie Murphy, also a 2nd year student sponsored by the LBSB District was inspired by all the people she met and learned that "advocacy is such a critical part of physical therapy in every way."
Matt Walker, a 3rd year student, drove up from his clinical rotation in Fresno and stated that he "never realized how much action was going on behind the scenes in the capital. Big thanks to the CPTA for putting this day together!"
Overall, the students had an amazing day learning more about important bills including AB 387 (Interns as Employees) and AB 1510 (Athletic Trainer Licensure and Scope of Practice).
