CSULB students recently attended a joint course held by the California Orthopedic Manual Therapy Special Interest Group and the California Student Special Interest Group.
Titled Spinal HVLA: Clinical Application and Skills Development for the Physical Therapy Student, students learned multiple cervical, thoracic, lumbar, and sacral HVLA techniques from expert clinicians. The course occurred twice over two separate weekends in two separate locations - one weekend in Los Angeles and the second weekend in Union City.
The course consisted of a whole day of lecture, lab, and most importantly, the opportunity for hands on practice with the mentorship of established physical therapists. Students learned to perform HVLA techniques, when to perform them, and when not to perform them. Overall, it was an amazing course that adds another tool in each student's physical therapy toolbox.

Daisuke Saiki and Wendy Babiano, who both attended the LA course (pictured above), enjoyed meeting students from other programs and learning new methods and positions for HVLA techniques.

Matt Downey and Matt Walker, who attended the Union City course (pictured above) enjoyed the constructive and valuable feedback from the two course instructors and the three course assistants.
