On Friday, October 28, students from the CSULB PTSA went to Newcomb Academy in Long Beach to volunteer for their inaugural Abilities Awareness Fair.
The fair involved 6-8th grade students spending time at different stations: Orientation and Mobility, Orthopedic Impairments, etc. to learn more what it's like for individuals with disabilities to communicate, move around, and function in ways that most people take for granted.
It was humbling to see how passionate the teachers, parents, and other volunteers where at the event. The event head, Miss Morales, teaches a wonderful class of students who have disabilities. She wanted the students to understand and appreciate what other students may be going through. The event was awesome and it was such a humbling experience to help out!
